In “Accidentally Marrying the Mafia Don”, the FMC Ruby is a hair stylist for a wedding taking place in Italy. When everything that could possibly go wrong, does go wrong, Ruby ends up being a stand-in maid of honor. In an absolute comedy of errors, Ruby and uncle to the bride – Dante, save the wedding from disaster. But, when Ruby and Dante sign the marriage license as witnesses, they end up not being the witnesses at all..
A couple months later when Ruby is going through her mail, she comes across a marriage license for her and Dante. Now she has to track Dante down, and figure out how the hell she ended up married to the mafia boss.
This book is a mafia rom-com, with many fun tropes including: age gap, touch her and die, he falls first, virgin FMC, marriage of convenience, and more.
Now, my review..
The positives:
- This was such a quick and fun audiobook to listen to. The banter between the characters was great, and everything that goes wrong at the wedding will have you laughing out loud. The pup Al Poochino and his antics were the cherry on top.
- The narrators did a fantastic job and were very engaging to listen to.
- I think the tropes were very well done. The author fit a lot of content into a short novel without making it feel overwhelming or too rushed.
- Without putting spoilers, I enjoyed the way their sexual relationship progressed. I think the author did a great job with the spicy scenes.
- Dante was a well written mafia boss, there were times I was annoyed by something he did or said, but I would take a step back and think “well he’s a freaking mafia boss so he is going to be intense!”. I really enjoyed that aspect of the Dante character.
The negatives:
- Inta-love. I am never a fan of characters who experience insta-love. I enjoy insta-like, insta-attraction, or insta- literally anything else. I understand it was a short novel so it had to be fast paced, but the characters had barely spoken before thoughts of love were already being addressed in the book
In general, I enjoyed “Accidently Marrying the Mafia Don”, but it is not a book that I would pick up for a re-read. The book was silly in all the best ways, steamy where it needed to be, and still hit all the tropes you want to see when reading a mafia romance.
“The truth is.. I’m a wife guy now.” – Dante
