Love Me Stalk Me is the first book in the Obsessively Yours series. I originally picked up this book from a Kindle day deal, and was not planning to read it for a while. But I recently received the second book in this series, Hate Me Take Me, as a NetGalley ARC, thus Love Me Stalk Me immediately got bumped up to read in chronological order.
FMC Izzy Russo is the manager of a high-end retail store named Monarch. She works there with her best friend and assistant manager Amanda. Izzy loves her job, her family, but the one area she is lacking love is with her dead-end boyfriend, Evan. Truthfully, Evan is a little shit bag who constantly tears Izzy down and changes who she is. Amanda, being the best friend she is, tries to convince Izzy how much better life could be without Evan. Resulting in Amanda downloading the Obsessively Yours app on Izzy’s phone. Obsessively Yours is an AI dating app where you can craft your perfect boyfriend based on traits you choose in a questionnaire.
Enter MMC Callahan, Izzy’s new head of security at Monarch. After seeing first hand how Evan treats Izzy, Callahan makes it his mission to show Izzy how she should be treated… but maybe not in the most ethical way. Callahan hacks into Izzy’s phone and her Obsessively Yours app, playing as Izzy’s AI crafted boyfriend – Caleb.
With all the attention Izzy is receiving from Callahan and Caleb, she starts to see Evan for the manipulative asshole he really is. So, when Izzy finally gains the confidence to leave Evan, she is exposed to a much darker side of the man she thought she knew. Callahan will have to put his secret on the line to save Izzy from the monster who has always been lurking beside her.
Now, my review..
The positives:
- I really enjoyed Izzy’s growth through this book. As someone who has previously been in a mentally abusive relationship, I found myself relating to Izzy a lot. When you are in the kind of relationship portrayed in this book, you really do become blind to how you are being treated and make excuses for it. You blame yourself and always feel like you are the problem, and I think that was represented very well here.
- I enjoyed the text conversations and felt like they helped with the pacing of the book
- Callahan was a great MMC, I found myself justifying him hacking Izzy’s phone, keeping tabs on her, and being her AI boyfriend. I love when an author gets me on the morally grey MMCs side
The negatives:
- The only negative I can come up with is I felt like the book did drag in some spots. I think 400 pages was a little long for the content in this book, and maybe if some scenes were cut or shortened it would have helped with the pacing.
Overall, I really enjoyed Love Me Stalk Me and I am excited to hop right into the next book. Just make sure you check the trigger warnings if you have sensitives. Keep an eye out for my ARC review of Amanda’s story, Hate Me Take Me
